Fly Fishing in France

Well, I can now count myself lucky in that I have been fly fishing on another continent. During a recent trip to France with my Dad, Grandpa and Cousin to visit WWII historical sites we took a full day trip to NW Brittany and fished the “Le Blavet”. Weather was overcast and spitting for the balance of the day, but our guide Phillipe was exceptional. He seemed dumbfounded that we didn’t see the number of risers as he was accustomed to. Fortunately, there was enough opportunity for each of us (minus Grandpa who was bird watching) to take a truly wild trout. After the evening hatch subsequent to a roughly 2-mile hike, we began in earnest our trek back to the car. I don’t know if you’ve ever walked around blindfolded in the woods at the side of a river after a full day of rain, but to say the least, the hike back was absolutely treacherous. Despite all of that, I would do it a hundred times over. That’s how beautiful the water and the countryside were.

What about you, do you have any trout stories that take place outside of the good ol’ U.S.A.? We would love to hear them. Until next time – tight lines…
