Deer hunting games are now ubiquitous with next generation gaming platforms as well as personal computers. Although never a substitute for the real thing, deer hunting games now offer an amount of believability and quality of graphics to make them can’t miss products for the avid deer hunter, who also happens to be a gamer. It would take a very long time to run down the list of deer hunting games that are now available on the market, so I am going to focus on the most popular products on the market today.

Hunting Unlimited Series (Now out for 2010):
In my humble opinion, this is the best hunting game on the market today. I have played several other games, from Cabela’s as well as the Deer Hunter series and these other games are no comparison. The amount of realism and intelligence demonstrated in this game is unrivaled. Deer act like their real-life counterparts do – making stealth and use of wind paramount in this game. This game offers 11 huge regions to hunt including the upper-midwest, Alaska, the Southern U.S. and several more. In addition to being an excellent deer hunting game, there are many other species that can be hunted. Finally, the player is given the opportunity to customize the game to fit their gaming experience – the amount of gear and modes of transportation is also unrivaled.

Cabela’s Big Game Hunter:
A strong offering in the hunting genre though this game typically gets poor reviews from users on many of the big gaming sites. This game obviously has the backing of the Cabela’s name and does feature excellent realism and cutting edge graphics. If you watch the Outdoors Channel or any other outdoors network, you have probably seen the commercials for this game. This game is played through the eyes of a hunter named Jack as you chart his path to hunting super stardom. The focus of this game is not only on deer hunting, but taking down all of the big game animals hunted in five continents. I must say, out of all of the deer hunting games that I have seen, this game offers the best graphics. The only downside is that Cabela’s Big Game Hunter is only available on platform gaming systems like XBox 360, PS3 and the Wii.

Deer Hunter Series (5 was the latest release in 2004):
This game is unique from the ones above due to the fact that it’s major focus is on hunting whitetail deer. Don’t let its release date fool you – although the series has aged a bit, it is still a very enjoyable deer hunting game. This game is only available for PCs and not offered on console gaming systems. Some of the highlights are deer herd management, allowing players to look over the health of their deer herd. This is also something unique in the deer hunting game genre. This game (as well as the others) offers an online element, allowing you to compete against other players from around the world to see who can bring down the biggest buck. Graphics are what you would expect from an older game, but there is definitely replay value with the ability to manage your own deer herd.
